The project at Barnfield is Class Q permitted development which enabled the change of use from an agricultural building to two residences, using the existing structure.
The existing agricultural barn consisted of a steel portal frame building with reinforced concrete walls and an asbestos roof. The structure has been stripped back to its steel frame with the external and internal walls being demolished and the asbestos roof removed under controlled measures.
The project combines both traditional and modern methods of construction incorporating energy efficient timber frame walls which help to reduce carbon emissions and Posi floor joist. The energy efficiency of the development is echoed across the project with both dwellings benefitting from Ground Source Heat Pumps and Solar Panels thus further reducing the carbon footprint of the development.
